Sting's Musical ‘The Last Ship' Finds a Home and a Cast...

Casting and a Broadway theater were announced on Wednesday for "The Last Ship," the new show with music and lyrics by the Grammy Award-winning singer Sting and a book by the Tony Award-winning author John Logan ("Red") and the Putlizer Prize winner Brian Yorkey ("Next to Normal"). The producers Jeffrey Seller and Kathryn Schenker announced that the show, a tale of love and labor strife in an English shipbuilding town, will begin previews on Sept. 30 at the Neil Simon Theater, with opening night set for Oct. 26. (The musical "Big Fish" closed there in December.) The cast will include Michael Esper, Rachel Tucker, Jimmy Nail, Aaron Lazar, Sally Ann Triplett, Collin Kelly-Sordelet and Fred Applegate. Additional casting is to be announced. Also announced was the design team of David Zinn (sets and costumes), Christopher Akerlind (lighting) and Brian Ronan (sound). Interview: THE INDEPENDENT (2013)

Former Police frontman Sting is finally comfortable with the fact he is no longer able to write pop songs. He tells Julia Molony how a self-penned play helped him beat writer's block, and explains just who he sees when he looks in the mirror. Sting walks into the hotel boardroom bundled in a high-collared grey coat against the cold. His hair is tightly shorn, his clothing muted, his skin a soft beige. He only lives around the corner, he says, from the hotel in Westminster, and presumably has walked here. "Sting: When The Last Ship Sails" will air Sunday, 22 December on BBC One at 10:55PM! Performing songs from his new album The Last Ship, the intimate live performance was recorded at a special fan club concert on October 2, 2013 at The Public Theater in New York. Inspired by his forthcoming play of the same name and drawing upon his memories of growing up in the shipbuilding community of Wallsend in the North East of England, the music explores the complexity of relationships, family, community and the passage of time. Sting to Appear on The Andrew Marr Show This Sunday!

Sting will appear on The Andrew Marr Show on BBC One this Sunday, December 8 at 9AM/GMT for a live interview and performance from his new album, The Last Ship! Other guests will include a senior UK Cabinet Minister, Neil Kinnock (the former Leader of the Labour Party), and Sir Trevor MacDonald, the first TV journalist to interview Nelson Mandela on his release from Robben Island.
